Felipe Lacerda has a diverse collection of skills which he has developed through years of consistent focus and dedication. He is an interpreter, translator, teacher, musician and sound engineer. Whilst many try and diversify too much and become a jack of all trades and the master of none, Felipe has managed to reach such a level in his different skill areas whereby he can employ them on an almost daily basis to enrich different projects that he is working on. Recent projects include interpreting work for the Dutch Embassy and the British Council in his native Brazil. He has recently finished producing, editing and presenting a video informerical course for portuguese speakers (specifically Brazilians) wishing to improve and learn some useful expressions and language before travelling to English speaking countries. He also edits and co-produces the “Teaching Tips and Tales” podcast. As a teacher, his engaging personality, as well his passion for and ability to stay abreast of the rapidly changing landscape of technology has contributed to outstanding EFL lessons in which he has been asked to mentor colleagues in order to improve the effectiveness of their lessons.

TTT 001 : How using humour can make you and your class more relaxed with Deborah C

01 February 2015

Any teacher will tell you that the first year in the profession is particularly challenging. It can be difficult to step back and laugh at yourself, especially when you feel like you are in the line of fire. Deborah, a secondary art and psychology teacher in an outer London comprehensive school in England sees humour as a necessary antidote to ease the tension. I met her through a close friend of mine whilst I was doing what is known as the NQT (Newly qualified Teacher) year. Her humour and wit helped me see the funny side of situations. We discuss how humour can be used effectively in the classroom and what makes someone funny.
